The Engine Base is used in the Atlas booster to attach the Rocketdyne XLR-89-5 booster engines to the rocket, and it is detached alongside the engines when they run out of fuel. It contains two tubes coming from the Engine Adapter that appear to transport the fuel-oxidiser mix to ignite them in the combustion chambers. It requires the covers to be attached to the rest of the Atlas rocket.
Trivia[]
- In the real life Atlas rocket, separating the engine base was necessary to reach orbit, however in the game, separating the base is not necessary to reach orbit, as the Rocketdyne XLR-89-5 engines have enough burn time to make it into orbit, this allowing the Atlas rocket to work as a SSTO.
