The Galilean moons of Jupiter are four moons that orbit Jupiter. They are Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto. They are larger than the moon and Mercury and orbit not that far from Jupiter. They are explored by many players.

To get into orbit around Jupiter's moons, either rendezvous (so your trajectories intersect, see Rendezvous and Docking Tutorial and Trajectory Correction Maneuvers), or match their orbit as closely as possible (Hohmann transferring).

Galilean moons of Jupiter
Name Appearance Size Description
Io Medium Io is the closest and second smallest moon of the group. It has a large gravity, is yellow and has rough terrain.
Europa Small Europa is the smallest of the Galilean moons. It has an almost flat surface, which makes a prime landing spot for landers and rovers and is also the easiest Galilean moon to explore.
Ganymede Large Ganymede is the largest moon of Jupiter and of the Galilean moons. It is larger than Mercury and has a gravity that is comparable to the moon.
Callisto Large Callisto is the farthest and second largest of the Galilean moons. It has a heavily cratered surface like the moon and has the smallest gravity of all the Galilean moons.

Trivia[]

  • All moons are discovered by Galileo di Vincenzo Bonaiuti de' Galilei, during January 7, 1660.
  • In older versions of the game, they are larger and have higher gravity.
  • The Galilean moons have no landmarks.
  • The moons' orbit are scaled to 1:25.
