Destruction is a game mechanic that depicts Parts being destroyed, causing them to explode and disappear. The resulting explosion also causes the screen to shake. If an entire rocket gets destroyed, the Failure menu appears.
Causes[]
Collision[]
If a Part collides hard enough with another planet or Part, it will be destroyed. The velocity required for destruction depends on the mass of that Part; higher mass means lower velocity. Landing legs are about twice as durable as other Parts.
Overheating[]
If a Part's temperature exceeds its melting point by 3%, it will be destroyed. Normal parts have a heat tolerance of 400 degrees Celsius (752 Fahrenheit), while Heat Shields have a heat tolerance of 6,000 degrees Celsius (10832 Fahrenheit).
Trivia[]
- If a rocket collides hard enough, all of it will be destroyed instantly instead of Part by Part.
- If the rocket collides with something with a relative velocity of more than 2 km/s, it will clip into it. This is because the Unity engine does not recognize that the object hit that other object above that speed.
- If a part of an rocket is overheated, it will detach first then it will be destroyed.
