A payload is a spacecraft usually on a top of a rocket. They are usually deployed when it is now ready to operate. They are encased in fairings to protect it from overheating during launch.

Types of payloads[]

A payload can be a:

Attachment in rockets[]

It is advised to encase a payload in a fairing to prevent overheating. They must be detached when they are now in the upper atmosphere. They must be deployed when you finally don't need the payload carrier to be there and if it is ready to use.

Deployment[]

To deploy a payload that is ready to use in space, detach the fairings first. A separator or a docking port (if it is dockable) must be used to separate the payload from the stage that carries the payload.

If it uses a separator, change the strength to 0 kN, so it would not explode from the rocket, and also to keep it from bumping to the rocket that carries it. If it uses a docking port, use RCS thrusters to slowly move away from the rocket that carries it. If it has no thrusters, time warping could separate them.

If it is a space station module, it is advised to first dock to the core module of the station, and if it has multiple modules docked to it, dock that into the specific docking port, then separate the rocket that carries it. A docking port must be used for detaching rocket carriers.
