Physics time warp is enabled when burning engines or moving rover wheels, specifically how fast the game physics is increased. Objects under physics timewarp do not encounter orbit locking, and are subject to atmospheric entry/heating stresses. Physics timewarp is also important for ions to function properly, as the slow but highly efficient engine makes some of the longest burns in the game.
