The Launch Escape System is a part used in the Mercury-Redstone and the Atlas rockets. It is attached on top of a capsule and is used to detach it in case of an emergency or a rocket failure.
Once the engines are turned on, they cannot be turned off or throttled. They only burn for about 2 seconds before running out of fuel.
To detach just the tower, tap the arrow on the bottom. To detach the tower and capsule, tap the engines or truss structure.
Trivia[]
- It is the only red part in the game. Its skin, however, cannot be accessed, unless if you access the game's code.
- The capsule turns slightly to one side when it's separated as its center of mass is slightly offset.
- The LES is separated once high into the atmosphere, since the capsule can return on its own by that point.
- This part can be used as missiles, as long as you tap its bottom. However, it burns quickly so it can only be used for short-range missiles.
