The retro pack is a solid rocket motor attached to any kind of capsule. It is used to deorbit a capsule. Like the Solid Rocket Boosters and the Redstone Atlas Launch Escape System, it cannot be throttled or turned off.
Trivia[]
- It doesn't have any engine heat.
- It has three separate "separation force" indicators in its description. This was fixed in 1.5.8.2.
- This part can be made as mini missiles.
- In game, the retro pack has two boosters visible. However, in real life, it has three. (see 15-B Retropack)
- The retro pack on the physical Mercury Rocket had funnels on it's nozzles, coming to a smaller point.
- The retro pack has the longest solid rocket booster burn time,
- The real-life retro pack has small red posigrade nozzles to help separate it from the Atlas booster; in-game there are no separation nozzles.
